The pride is back

In October 2019, our resident pride of lions were displaced and pushed out of Black Rhino. Two dominant males came from the south and wanted to take over this new area, so the pride all fled back into Pilanesberg.

Lionesses are extremely protective over their young and will defend them to the death. When a pride loses their dominant males, the newcomers will kill any cubs or youngster that are a year or younger to get rid of the previous males’ genetics.

The pride currently consists of four full-grown females, two juvenile males, two large males and three cubs. Let’s hope they move back into their natural territory. We will keep you up to date of their activities.

Here are some other highlights from the past month.
