With the cold winter chills subsiding and the afternoons reaching 30’C, we can truly (confidently) say that spring is officially at Buffalo Thorn Lodge. Apart from the temperature changes the following bird species have been coming back from the cooling Northern Hemisphere e.g.
The sightings on the reserve have been truly spectacular of late, with frequent sightings of elephant and buffalo. We have been spoilt with the two cheetah males and ”Tale” and her 3 cubs for basically the whole of August. ‘Rain’ another cheetah in the Pilanesberg National Park was also sighted with her 2 cubs by our guests. Rain being one of the first cheetahs introduced into the Pilanesberg in more than a decade. She was captured on a farm in the North West and was brought to the Pilanesberg by the EWT (Endangered Wildlife trust). The farmer that saved her, his name is Rian, hence the suitable name. She’s been an exceptional mother raising almost all her cubs to maturity, ”Tale” being one of them.
