With February being the month of love, there have been many demonstrations of nurturing love between the many mothers and their new borns. Cupid worked overtime earlier last year. With all the antelopes giving birth in December, the little ones are now coming into their stride and attempting to make out that they are much older and tougher than they really are. In the bush it’s very much about, fake it until you make it, or rather, fake it until you can survive. Having said that, they are far more capable than us humans at an early age. Young antelopes need to be quick learners lest they end up being quick meals on heels. Every morning these little ones need to wake up running. Africa is not for the faint-hearted.
February has also brought the rains. The heavens have opened and transformed the Savanna into a lush oasis. In the last two weeks we have been blessed by over 250mm of rain. With much of the country experiencing similarly high levels of rain, the Pilanesberg has not been overlooked.
